PANAJI - The competition section at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has become bigger this year as films from Europe, Americas and Australia will compete for top honours, a top official said.
The 41st IFFI will take place here in November.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji Monday, Manoj Srivastava, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), which co-hosts the annual event, said IFFI’s competition section has been opened for global cinema.
“Earlier the section was open only for Asia, Africa and Latin America. We expect films from Europe, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand as the competition section is open for global cinema this year,” Srivastava said.
“Widening of competition will definitely bring in better content. The quality of content will definitely go up,” he added.
Talking about the history of the constant upgrade at the IFFI’s competition section over the years, Srivastava said when the festival was conceived, the competition section only had Asian films.
“We only had films from Asia then in the 1970s. Then it was upgraded to include movies from Africa and Latin America in 1995 and 2005 (respectively),” he said.
