June 22, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The well-known writer Yunus Sajawal has crossed many a bridges. Now with his film ‘Benny and Babloo’, he is creating his own niche,as a debutante director. All may be aware that Yunus Sajawal had penned some of the finest screenplays for more than two dozen films namely, Haseena Maan Jayegi & Jodi No 1 which were major box-office successes. The millennium year began with Yunus writing hits like Kunwara, Kyon Kii…Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta, Nehlle Pe Dehlla, Partner, Do Knot Disturb, Life Partner, Golmaal Returns and All The Best: Fun Begins amongst others. Presently, he is pre-occupied with penning Golmaal 3.
Benny and Babloo is a gift to cinema lovers, where you can sit back and wait for a joy ride. The first directorial venture from Yunus Sajawal is an attempt to convey the stark truth of the prevailing society in a Metro city like Mumbai. The film, though portrayed in a light hearted manner, sheds light on the customs of the policing system. The story is about two good Samaritans, Benny (Kay Kay Menon) and Babloo (Rajpal Yadav) who like any other Indian, are smitten by the glamour of Mumbai. After a brief stint as waiters, in a typical Mumbai style Irani restaurant, the two land up in distinctly different jobs…..Benny takes up a job of a bell-boy in a suburban five-star hotel whereas Babloo lands up as a waiter in a ladies service bar.
Benny considers his job to be far superior to Babloo’s and ends up making fun of him more often than not. Post a hilarious experience of the new jobs to start with, both gradually realize that they are actually in similar professions with different exteriors, but identical interiors. Benny’s pride starts fading with time when reality strikes…!!!
vBenny witnesses innumerable social evils at the five-star hotel, right from drug abuse to political fiascos while Babloo meets the more human side of the otherwise condemned part of the society. And the truth dawns, that our system turns a blind eye towards the Five Star Hotels while the Ladies Bars are constantly facing the wrath of the same. On the whole, writer-director Yunus Sajawal has treaded the rough road while adding a new dimension to the raging debate ….Are bar girls a bigger threat than terrorists?
In short Benny And Babloo is a satirical comedy that throws light on the similarity between the two sides of the same coin. The female stars comprise of Riya Sen, Shweta Tiwari, Rukhsaar, Anita Hasnandani, Richa Chaddha, Maushumi Udeshi and others. Produced by Umesh Chouhan, under the banner of Chamunda Films, the film has music by Amjad Nadeem lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed. The film is slated for a mid-August release.
