‘Toy Story 3′ characters to visit India

NEW DELHI - Woody, Buzz Light-year and Jessie - the iconic characters from the successful “Toy Story” are coming to India for the first time to promote the third instalment of the animated series.

“Toy Story 3″ is scheduled for a June 25 release here and the characters will visit the capital June 19-20, Mumbai June 25 and Bangalore June 27. The promotional tour is being done in partnership with the Hong Kong Disneyland.

“We are thrilled to bring them to meet with their fans in India for the first time, ahead of the ‘Toy Story 3′ release,” said Mahesh Samat, managing director of The Walt Disney Company (India), in a statement.

Produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, the final instalment in the series is in 3D. It will release in the US June 18 and Britain June 23.

In the film, Woody is a cowboy sheriff with a pull-string that, when pulled, proclaims his signature catchphrases from the 1950s TV show “Woody’s Roundup”.

Buzz Light-year is a heroic space ranger action figure, complete with laser beam, karate-chop action and pop-out wings, while Jessie is an exuberant, rough-and-tumble cowgirl doll who is always up for a daring adventure to save critters in need.

Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, John Ratzenberger, Wallace Shawn, Jeff Pidgeon, R. Lee Ermey, John Morris, Jodi Benson and Laurie Metcalf all reprise their roles from the previous films.
