LONDON - “James Bond” star Daniel Craig might join the cast of the cinema adaptation of award-winning crime novel, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”.

The 42-year-old is in talks with the producers of the movie to play male lead Mikael Blomkvist, which was apparently offered to actor Brad Pitt earlier, reports contactmusic.com.

Stieg Larsson’s book “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, which was given a Swedish film adaptation earlier this year, tells the story of investigative reporter Mikael and computer hacker Lisbeth Salander researching a family history for a wealthy recluse.

The US remake will be directed by David Fincher and is scripted by Steven Zaillian. Both are insisting that their interpretation will be completely different from the Swedish version.

Craig currently has free time following the suspension of production on the 23rd Bond film due to problems with MGM studios.

“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is expected to hit the big screens in 2012.
