JOHANNESBURG - Hollywood actor Antonio Banderas has been roped in to judge a photo exhibition launched by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to be held during Millennium Development Goals Summit in September in New York.

The contest, titled “Picture This: We Can End Poverty”, seeks to show the inspirational work that is being done in many countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Banderas, who is UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, will choose the winning photos along with other four judges, who are professional photo journalists.

“We are at a defining moment in the fight against poverty. The challenges of achieving the MDGs cannot be overcome by a single person, organisation or government. All sectors of society need to be mobilised in a call to action for the big push to 2015,” Banderas said in a statement.

“This photo contest is the type of initiative that will bring all these different groups together in order to focus attention on the urgency of achieving the MDGs,” he added.
