LOS ANGELES - Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway’s actor boyfriend Adam Shulman has avoided criminal charges after returning the painting of a street artist.

Shulman was caught detaching the large graffiti piece by street artist Brainwash from a construction site barrier in New York’s Meatpacking District, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Ownership of the piece has been claimed by Ken Hart of H&H Building and he said he won’t press charges if Shulman will return the art work.

On Tuesday, Shulman telephoned Hart and apologised for taking the piece before returning the makeshift wooden canvas, which features a man bearing similarity to Alfred Hitchcock holding a Happy Mother’s Day sign.

Hart has agreed to drop the matter, and said, “I got my art back. I’m happy.”
