St. Patricks Day may be called “Green Day”. “Wearing of the green”, drinking green beer or making rivers or stream green with dye — all are parts of St. Patricks Day celebrations.

St. Patricks Day is the biggest holiday in Ireland. Now it is celebrated around the world with great enthusiasm. St. Patricks Day celebrations involves world-famous parade hosted by Irish capital Dublin. Almost 650,000 people participated in this parade.

In New York City the Empire State Building turns green on the occasion of St. Patricks Day. In Chicago you might have seen river flowing with green water. These all are part of St. Patricks Day celebrations.

Unfortunately, St. Patricks Day 2010 saw lack of shamrock. The national plant is in short supply due to severe damage from winter frost. Modern farming and constant receding of grassland are also to be blamed for disastrous loss of the clovers. Inspite of the shortage, President Obama reportedly has received the real thing from Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen.

President Obama celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by an unique way. On Wednesday evening the president and first lady Michelle Obama gave warm reception to Irish Prime minister Brian Cowen and his wife at the White House. They enjoyed a great evening watching the rocking performance of Keltic Dreams, an Irish dancing troupe.

On this auspicious day, Ireland is to boost its tourism. It is using floodlights to create a new hue. You can also help saving our green environment by switching to fluorescent lightbulbs and unplugging electronics, eating green vegetables or drinking eco-friendly ale.

Cheers to ‘green’ St. Patricks Day !
