‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’ causes outrage in US with scenes of Roman orgies

LONDON - Television series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” is said to have caused outrage in the US after it featured full-frontal nudity and explicit scenes of Roman orgies.
The television show is also set to hit British TV screens this year, and with Scottish actor John Hannah doing most of the stripping off, producers are now hoping to place it with a UK network.
The Netherlands, which has a more relaxed attitude to censoring, snapped up the steamy drama, which began airing in America in January.
In the latest episode, Hannah, who starred in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ and one-time ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ actress Lucy Lawless stripped off for a sizzling bath-time romp.
The two stars play sex-mad married couple Batiatus and Lucretia.
In the horny historical drama, renegade slave Spartacus is purchased by ruthless Batiatus and his wife Lucretia and forced to fight in the gladiatorial arena.
In some of the most explicit scenes ever seen on TV, lusty topless Lucretia is shown being washed by two naked babes when Batiatus joins in the fun, and while his missus watches, the kinky husband romps with a slave girl.
Lawless says that she expects shocked viewers to switch off.
“I think a lot of people are going to be shocked and they are going to shut off their televisions,” the Sun quoted her as saying.
As well as the pair’s bath-time frolics, there’s also a full-blown Roman orgy, and a scene showing gladiators being treated to a shocking sex fest when saucy slave girls strip off for nookie. (ANI)
