Washington Considers Permanent Broadway Move

DENZEL WASHINGTON wants to return to his acting roots and leave Hollywood behind for a full-time career in theatre.
The double Oscar winner, who is set to appear on Broadway in April (10), admits he’s become disillusioned with the movie industry and now has a new set of life goals.
Top of that list is performing on the stage again - he started his acting career in a 1970s college production of Shakespeare’s Othello, before winning critical acclaim for his role in A Soldier’s Play and Broadway’s Julius Caesar in 2005.
He tells the New York Post, “My priorities have changed. The first thing I wanna do is theatre. The second is direct movies. Acting in movies is now number three on the list.”
Washington is set to relocate to New York ahead of his upcoming stint in a revival of August Wilson’s Fences, and he’s excited at the prospect of performing in front of a live audience again after years spent sacrificing his first love for the sake of his family.
He says, “I always felt bad with eight shows a week - you can’t get home. I always felt bad doing it (a Broadway run).
“Julius Caesar was the first time in a long time I came back to New York, because of the children.”
Washington has four kids with wife Pauletta and their two youngest are now freshmen in college.
