Spielberg Taking Broadway To Tv
By WENNFriday, September 25, 2009
STEVEN SPIELBERG is venturing into TV with a series documenting the development of a Broadway musical.
The Jurassic Park director’s ambitious project will chronicle every aspect of the stage show’s preparations, starting with scriptwriting through to the production’s opening night.
The musical is expected to then open to audiences in New York, with a run in London’s West End to follow depending on its success.
Spielberg is said to be in negotiations with Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who composed the score for Hairspray and also wrote the music and lyrics for a live adaptation of the filmmaker’s 2002 thriller Catch Me If You Can.
The as-yet-untitled series is expected to air on U.S. network Showtime.
