Karunanidhi launches Tamil film ‘Ponnar-Sankar’

CHENNAI - Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s novel about two warrior brothers is being made into a movie. The DMK chief himself launched the film “Ponnar-Sankar” and said he was overwhelmed that his favourite literary work is being adapted on screen.

“I am extremely moved to see one of my favourite works being made into a cinema,” said the minister at the launch Sunday.

Thiyagarajan is wielding the megaphone for the film, which stars his son Prashanth in double role. The film will also feature veteran actress Manorama and D. Napolean, minister of state for social justice and empowerment.

Prashanth is a bundle of talent. Though the actor stayed away from cinema for a couple of years, he is sure to become famous after the film. A huge set replicating the past shows that the movie will come out well, said the minister.

Noted lyricist Valli has composed songs for the film.

State Ministers Stalin, Durai Murugan and Arcot Veerasamy as well as Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan were present.

“Ponnar-Sankar” tells the story of two warrior brothers who lived centuries ago. They are known for their bravery and valour. The two are worshiped as Kaval Devams in the villages and remembered through folk ballads.
