LONDON - Susan Boyle has been smitten with 18-year senior widower after the two met at a prayer group two years ago and her advances remain unreturned, it has emerged.

Helmut Glaser, 66, revealed that the “lovely” singing sensation, 48, has been besotted with him and communicated her feelings.

But Helmut rejected her fellow devout Catholic’s advances citing the age difference.

“She had a crush on me last year. We met two years ago at a church group. She’s lovely but I’m just too old for her,” News of the World quoted Helmut as saying.

“Susan expressed her feelings towards me but I had to let her down gently and remind her that I was old enough to be her father. I’ll be 67 on my next birthday.

“Susan understood and called me up afterwards and apologised. It was fine and we had a laugh about it. I lost my wife in 1988 and I’m too old to get involved with anyone,” he added.

But Susan still seems to be keeping her finger crossed, for the Britain’s Got Talent finalist had apparently asked Helmut: “If I make any money from singing, will you come to Rome with me?”

Helmut added: “I’d love to go to Rome but I’m not sure I’d go with just Susan in case she got the wrong idea and thinks I’m keen on her. I should stress that she is a lovely woman and I am so proud of what she has done.”

Susan turned into an overnight celebrity and won fans all over the world, including US President Barack Obama and Hollywood couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, with her jaw dropping performance of audition song ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ on the talent show.

However, she lost the title to street dance group Diversity. (ANI)
