Newman’s widow ‘devastated’ over claims of hubby’s affair

LONDON - Paul Newman’s widow is reportedly “devastated” over claims that her marriage was almost in ruins due to her late husband’s affair with a young showbiz reporter.

Joanne Woodward, who had been married to the acting legend for 50 years, was said to be fuming over allegations made in movie critic Shawn Levy’s new book Paul Newman: A Life.

The 78-year-old, who is still mourning the death of Newman who passed away last year aged 83, allegedly fears her husband’s reputation is being tainted.

“She had long gotten over what happened. She is so upset Paul’s memory is being besmirched,” the Daily Star quoted a pal of Joanne as saying.

Levy’s tome alleged that Newman indulged in an 18-month affair with Nancy Bacon after bumping into her on the set of Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid in 1969.

Nancy is quoted as saying that other actors made fun of “faithful” Paul’s famous comment: “Why go out for hamburger when you can have steak at home?”

She says: “Folks would say, ‘Paul may not go out for hamburger but he sure goes out for Bacon’.”

She adds: “We were hot and heavy for a year and a half and it was the worst- kept secret in Hollywood.” (ANI)
