LONDON - Clint Eastwood is making a movie about the life of America’s legendary crime fighter, J Edgar Hoover.

The actor-turned-director is expected to focus on some of the sleazy secrets of the controversial founder of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, reports the Daily Express.

The Oscar-tipped blockbuster, J. Edgar, is the most eagerly awaited biopic for years, according to critics.

Leonardo DiCaprio is to play Hoover and Dame Judi Dench his domineering mother, Anna Marie.

Behind his facade as a tough anti-communist and upholder of the American Dream, Hoover has long been suspected of being a closet homosexual and cross-dresser.

Eastwood recently hinted that he was well aware of Hoover’s double life - and believes he is the perfect filmmaker to bring one of America’s greatest figures to life on the screen.

“He (Hoover) was a very complex person. The homosexual aspect is just one of many. I would say that’s the least of his problems. But he was also very clever about keeping himself in a certain position in life, so it is an interesting study,” he said.
He is a fascinating character, and I think I am the right person to do it, not because I knew him or anything, but I did grow up with him. He was an iconic figure,” he added.

Filmgoers will have to wait until 20112 to see how 80-year-old director portrays Hoover. The film is currently being shot in the historic quarter of Los Angeles. (ANI)
