LONDON - Natalie Portman’s portrayal of ballerina Nina in the psychological thriller ‘Black Swan’, directed by Darren Aronofsky, has prompted fans to contact Royal Ballet to enquire when the actress will be taking to the stage.

The Royal Opera House, currently staging the Royal Ballet’s latest revival of the ballet ‘Swan Lake’, has received enquiries from potential audience members asking about Portman, reports the Telegraph.

A Royal Opera House spokeswoman said that the opening of the film earlier this month, which coincided with the opening of the Royal Ballet’s new production, had boosted tickets sales.

“We have had people coming in and ringing up the box office to ask when Natalie Portman will be dancing in our production,” she said.

“People are definitely more interested in the ballet because of the buzz around ‘Black Swan’ and we’ve noticed a lot of new people who have come to see ‘Swan Lake’ for the first time,” she added.

The film, which has been nominated for five Oscars, has also led to increased tickets sales for the English National Ballet (ENB), which will stage a production of ‘Swan Lake’ in March at the London Coliseum.

“The hype around the film has definitely helped us and we won’t need to spend as much on advertising as usual on our forthcoming production. The film has been great in prompting so much public interest in classical ballet,” said a spokesperson for ENB. (ANI)
