LOS ANGELES - Hollywood actor George Clooney has met with US President Barack Obama to discuss his peace campaign in Sudan.
The “Up In The Air” star has been actively involved with projects in the troubled Darfur region of Sudan. He also filmed a documentary there in 2008 to chronicle the atrocities after the country was embroiled in a civil war.
Clooney returned to the country this month amid growing tensions, as southern Sudan prepares to vote for independence. The actor has urged Obama to take diplomatic action to help prevent violence in the country.
“We have got 90 days to do this, it doesn’t cost a dime and it doesn’t cost any lives and no American troops. This is not a right or left issue…,” imdb.com quoted him as saying.
“There are pressures that we can put on the government that we in many ways in the United States have already used up - short of military power - and no one is suggesting that,” he added.
