Raksha Bandhan Wishes From Prathibha Patil

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — On a day before Raksha Bandhan President Pratibha Patil and Vice President Hamid Ansari greets the entire nation on Raksha Bandhan 2010, which will be celebrated in India on 24th August.
Raksha Bandhan is a festival of love and joy celebrated all over India. It reinforces and celebrates the chaste relationship between a brother and a sister. It is often referred to as ‘Rakhi’, which marks the emotional and social bonding between the brother and sister. It not only strengthens the virtues of love and wisdom, this festival also brings families together.
Raksha Bandhan is a very special occasion of the Hindus. On this occassion the sister ties a ‘rakhi’ (bracelet) on the wrist of her brother. This rakhi is not a mere thread but it has a deeper meaning. It means a bond of protection. From days immemorial this rakhi is believed to protect the brothers from evil and bestow upon them a healthy long life. The sisters prepare a beautiful ‘thali’ comprising of sweets, vermilion and grains. The brothers also vows to protect their sisters and show their love by presenting enticing gifts to them.
In her message to the people, Pratibha Patil stated that
“On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens. This festival is uniquely symbolic of the bonds of love, affection and mutual trust which have existed for centuries between sisters and brothers of every community in our country.”
The Vice President Mr. Ansari added that
” The Festival of Rakshabandhan which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters reinforces the spirit of family bonding, societal harmony and peaceful coexistence”.
The festival of Raksha Bandhan spreads the message of love, joy, prosperity and social harmony among the people. Lets celebrate this Raksha Bandhan 2010 together with a new hope and a joyful spirit. Happy Raksha Bandhan.
