LONDON - British screenwriter Simon Monjack died of acute pneumonia “just like” his wife, actress Brittany Murphy, the Los Angeles coroner’s office said.

The coroner’s office has confirmed the British screenwriter who was found dead at the couple’s Hollywood home May 23 - five months after his wife passed away from the same illness, was suffering from the inflammatory condition, as well as severe anaemia.

Los Angeles’ Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said: “Just like Brittany.” He added that some prescription drugs were found in the 40-year-old’s body, but not at lethal levels.

At the request of Monjack’s family, another test is to be conducted before the full autopsy report is released.

Brittany’s mother Sharon Murphy has welcomed the findings.

“I am still in shock and mourning over the deaths of my daughter Brittany and son-in-law Simon. It is with great relief that Simon’s preliminary autopsy findings have been released, so the media speculation can stop. As I was sure of, just like my daughter Brittany, there was no kind of drug overdose,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted Sharon as saying.

Brittany died last December of pneumonia, with anaemia as a contributing factor. She was 32.
