NEW DELHI - Sameera Reddy says those who criticised her for taking her acting career lightly will change their perception after watching her in “Red Alert” and “Ye Hausla”.

“I have always been scolded by most of the people I have met for my career choices. They believe I have taken my career very easily. But my next two films ‘Red Alert’ and ‘Ye Hausla’ will help me turn the tables. After watching these two films, people will take me seriously,” Sameera told IANS in an interview.

“I got a Bengali film called ‘Kalpurush’ that won a National Award. Honestly, I had signed the movie just for fun, but now the movie has changed my whole perception about what movie making should be. I agree my learning process has been slow, but I think now is the time.”

Sameera started her career with ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas’ music video “Aur Aahista”. In 2002, she made her big screen debut with “Maine Dil Tujhko Diya” opposite Sohail Khan. Then she went on to do films like “Musafir”, “Darna Mana Hai”, “Taxi Number 9211″, “Race” and “De Dana Dan”. She featured as a glam girl in most of the films.

Director Anant Mahadevan’s “Red Alert-The War Within”, about the Maoist movement, got critical appreciation. It also stars Suniel Shetty, Vinod Khanna, Seema Biswas and Gulshan Grover.

Was it a conscious decision to shed her glamorous image in “Red Alert”?

“No, it wasn’t a conscious decision to shed any image. People may think glamorous roles are easy, but trust me they are not. If you thought playing a dumb bimbo in ‘Race’ was an easy task, let me tell you, you are highly mistaken. Standing next to Anil Kapoor and asking senseless questions was not an easy,” said Sameera who has been longing to play double role in a movie.

“I have never done it before, but I would love to play a double role in a film. A role on similar terms like ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’. If ever a part two is made of this film, I would love to do it. That’s my dream role,” she said.

After “Red Alert”, her next release is Nagesh Kukunoor’s “Yeh Hausla”.
