Dixie Carter Death caused by Endometrial Cancer

Los Angeles (GaeaTimes.com) Designing Woman Dixie Carter died Saturday morning after complications arising out of endometrial cancer. Endometrium is the inner lining of uterus and any malignany there may be referred to as Endometrial Cancer. It is the most common type of gynecologic cancer in the US. It typically occurs within few decades of menopause. The New York Times Reported that she died of cancer in a Houston hospital.

She was a familiar face in Houston. In 2005, Dixie Carter and her husband Hal Holbrook starred in the world premiere of ‘Be My Baby’ play by Ken Ludwig at the Alley Theater at Houston. In 2007, Carter returned to co-star in the Alley’s production of Arsenic and Old Lace. Carter and Holbrook were honorary chairs at an Alley fundraiser.

However, the Tennessee native was most famous for her role of Julia Sugarbaker on Designing Woman in CBS Sitcom for seven consecutive years from 1986 to 1993. Her first TV Role was in ‘The Edge of Night’. She was also nominated for a seven episode stint on the Desperate Housewives on the ABC.

Dixie Carter married Holbrook in 1984 after they met four years earlier while making the movie ‘The Killing of Randy Webster’. The story was based on a 1977 case where a 17 year old was killed by a Houston Officer. She has two daughters Ginna Carter who stays at Los Angeles and Mary Dixie Carter who stays at Brooklyn, New York. She also has a sister, Melba Helen Heath who stays at San Anslemo, California.
