New world record for most expensive rough diamondAn unpolished large gem has sold for $35.3 million (£22 million) - breaking the record for the world’s most expensive rough diamond. The stone was discovered in September (09) in South Africa’s Cullinan mine and was acquired frm De Beers SA by diamond supplier Petra Diamonds Ltd. The 507-carat Cullinan Heritage diamond, which weighs just over 100 grams (3.53 ounces), was purchased by Hong Kong-based private jewellery retailer Chow Tai Food Jewelry Co. Limited. Adonis Pouroulis, chairman of Petra, tells Reuters,
