LOS ANGELES, (GaeaTimes.com)- Friday was a grand and memorable day not only for NAACP but also for the cast and crew of “Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” who got hold of the maximum awards from the NAACP Image Awards which conducted its 41st annual awards.
“Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”, which tells the story of an obese Harlem girl who is raped by her father and tortured by her sinister mother, was happy enough by making it big with six awards. The director of the film Lee Daniels received the best director award for his courageous endeavor. While receiving the award he became emotional and recalled how he was discouraged to make this film by a big studio. The leading actress of the film, Gabourey Sidibe was honored with the best actress award. Actress Mo’Nique held the best supporting actress award. Geoffrey Fletcher got the best writing award for the above mentioned film.
The best Actor award went to Morgan Freeman who played the role of Nelson Mandela in the film “Invictus”. R&B singer Mary. J. Blige was the best female singer and also won the best album award for her “Stronger With Each Tear”. NAACP awarded its prestigious Vanguard trophy to the hip hop singer Wyclef Jean. The singer had taken active part in fund raising for the relief of the earthquake victim Haiti which is also the singer’s native country.
In the TV comedy category “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” bragged four awards at the NAACP Image Awards. Cassi Davis was awarded the best comedy actress award for her role in the above mentioned. “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” also won the best series award along with the supporting actress and actor award which went to Keshia Knight Pulliam and Lance Gross respectively.
