LONDON - Late pop legend Michael Jackson was the most popular celebrity on the internet in 2009, says an annual poll by search engine giant Yahoo.
The King of Pop’s comeback concerts, announced in March thie year, followed by his tragic death in June, have made him the most searched for star on the web, reports independent.co.uk.
Jackson dethroned pop princess Britney Spears, who has led the annual poll for the last four years, with her personal struggles and highly-publicised breakdown consistently putting her at the top of the internet search engine’s most wanted list.
Vampire movie franchise “Twilight” claimed second place, followed by World Wrestling Entertainment and model-turned-actress Megan Fox on the third and the fourth spot respectively.
Former number one Spears was logged out of the top five.
The top 10 also saw entries for late stars Farrah Fawcett and Patrick Swayze, who both lost battles with cancer this year.
