British actor/comedian SHANE RICHIE is in mourning after his father died of cancer, aged 65.

Richie, who starred in London West End stage productions including Grease and Boogie Nights, was at his dad’s bedside as he passed away at Hammersmith Hospital in the U.K.’s capital on Monday night (26Oct09).

Richie, who also scored a number two hit in the U.K. charts in 2003 with a cover of Wham! track I’m Your Man, had a turbulent relationship with his father, previously admitting he was “really frightened” of him as he grew up. But the pair began rebuilding their relationship ten years ago.

Harry had been suffering from cancer for several years and was admitted to the hospital last week (ends25Oct09), according to Britain’s The Sun newspaper.

A source tells the publication, “Harry had been struggling with the cancer for some years but went downhill last week. Fortunately Shane was able to come to the hospital to be with his dad for his remaining days.

“Shane was holding his hand when he slipped away, which was pretty emotional. He’s very upset but is drawing strength from his family.”
