Universal Music Group cuts deal with BigChampagne

NEW YORK — Leading recording company Universal Music Group says it has entered into a long-term contract to use the services of online music measurement company BigChampagne Media Measurement in North America.

Privately held BigChampagne will provide an analysis of songs and listening patterns from millions of users of social networks and online services such as Apple Inc.’s iTunes and Yahoo Music.

The company also tracks illegal file-sharing.

Universal is a division of France’s Vivendi SA.
