Critics praise Danny Boyle’s theatre comeback

LONDON - Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle has been applauded for his return to theatre after a decade-and-a-half, with a stage version of “Frankenstein”.
The Daily Telegraph’s Charles Spencer says: “The Frankenstein story has become so familiar that it might seem an impossible task to make the old story seem fresh. Yet somehow Boyle does just that, constantly creating shocks, spectacular coups de theatre and scenes that tug at the heart.”
Libby Purves of The Times adds: “It is a hell of a production. This taut, thrilling play runs to its awful conclusion without an interval, indeed with hardly a moment for breath.”
Contactmusic.com reported that the project stars British actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and his monster.
Boyle began his career directing plays before moving to films, with the crime thriller “Shallow Grave” in 1995.
