KOCHI - Billed as the first of its kind in the country, a short film festival SCRIPT 2011 - Social & Corporate Responsibility International Promotional Theatre - would be held here Jan 28-29.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis, SCRIPT 2011 has support from the Public Broadcasting Service Trust and the Indian Documentary Producers Association (IDPA).

The festival organisers have conceived this as a platform for showcasing urgent social and humanitarian problems, community responses and inspiring success stories.

It seeks to recognise outstanding short films that deal with relevant global and local social issues, thereby drawing world attention to these issues.

Annie Thomas, part of the organising team, said the focus is on short films pertaining to social issues and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“The preliminary jury has selected films, from over 150 movie entries received, for the final round in four categories - Filmmakers (20), International (5), Students (7) and Corporates (5),” she said.

“There will be separate screenings, awards and cash prizes for each category,” she added.

The final jury is headed by popular South Indian actress Revathy.

In the filmmakers category, those who have made to the final round include Gautam Saikia, George Mangalath Thomas, Surendra Manan, Ananya Chakraborty, Shumona Banerjee to name a few.

The students’ section has entries from the Centre for Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai, and Satyajit Ray Film Institute Kolkata.

The international panorama has movies from Spain, Australia and Malaysia while the corporates section includes initiatives of L&T, Binani Zinc, Premier Oil and CREDAI.

The organisers have now decided to make this an annual event.
