WELLINGTON - Actor Ian McKellen is apparently set to return as the wizard Gandalf in upcoming Hobbit movies.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, McKellen’s role in next two Hobbit films had been confirmed, reports Stuff.co.nz.

The 71-year-old English actor was nominated for Oscar for the role in ‘The Lord of Rings’.

Other stars to reprise their ‘Lord of the Rings’ roles include Elijah Wood as Frodo, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

Jackson has signed Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, earlier played by Ian Holm, and Orlando Bloom will reprise his role as the elf Legolas.

The two Hobbit films are set to begin production in New Zealand next month using visual effects filmed in digital 3D. The first movie is due for release in December 2012, and the second a year later. (ANI)
