Garfield looks up to Ledger’s ‘Joker’ performance for Spiderman role

LONDON - Andrew Garfield has said that his late pal Heath Ledger’s performance as the joker in ‘The Dark Knight’ inspired him for his own comic-book movie debut in ‘Spiderman.’

Garfield was so impressed with Ledger’s sinister performance in the ‘Batman’ movie that he is channelling the actor as he prepares to start work on his first outing as the webslinger, reports the Daily Express.

The pair had worked together on ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ before Ledger’s untimely death in 2008.

The 27-year-old actor also revealed that the ‘Brokeback Mountain’ star was excited about seeing his turn as the joker when it hit the big screen.

“(The Dark Knight) wasn’t out, but I knew how excited he was. I was talking to his friends, who had been involved in the process, about it and they were so jazzed about how people were going to react to him,” said Garfield.

“What I learned from watching him in that movie was that it was so honest and specific. Somehow he made this very broad character incredibly honest and human. There’s so much to be learned from that, because otherwise during the big fight sequences, who cares, unless you have a good understanding of who the characters fighting are?” he added. (ANI)
