Disney’s 50th animated feature ‘Tangled’ to hit Indian screens Jan 21

NEW DELHI - After receiving critical plaudits and commercial success in the west, Walt Disney Pictures 50th full-length animated feature Tangled will hit the Indian screens Jan 21 in 3D.
‘Tangled’ is the 50th animated film from the Walt Disney Animation Studios. Thats remarkable. Starting with ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ (1937) this studio never stopped making animated films, John Lasseter, chief creative officer, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, said in a statement.
Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, the film features the voices of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy. Apparently it is also the the most expensive animation film till date, with a budget of $260 million.
The story of the movie is largely based on the German fairy tale Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm. Originally titled and marketed as Rapunzel, the animated musical was changed to Tangled shortly before its release Nov 24 in the US.
‘Tangled’ is not what audiences might expect. It is our telling of the ‘Rapunzel’ story, but it has a fresh twist to it. It is so contemporary, so modern, said Lasseter, who is also the principal creative advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering.
When the kingdoms most wanted and most charming bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Levi) is taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Moore), a feisty teen with 70 feet of golden hair whos looking for her ticket out of the tower where shes been locked away for years, the unlikely duo in Tangled set off on a hilarious, hair-raising escapade filled with adventure, heart, humour and hair - lots of hair.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association also nominated Tangled for two Golden Globe awards in categories - Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song for “I See the Light”.
Disney has to its credit unforgetful animated classics like Pinocchio, Bambi, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Tarzan and The Princess and the Frog, to name a few.
