Vengamamba shooting begins

Shooting of ‘Vengamamba’ with Meena and Saikiran in the lead roles was launched at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad recently. DVS Raju gave the clap, while Ramesh Prasad switched on the camera for the muhurat shot picturised on the lead artistes. Speaking on the occasion, Saikiran says, ‘I am portraying the role of Lord Venkateswara. I believe that it would remain a memorable role and I can proudly say that I played this prestigious character in my career.’ Meena says, ‘I made my debut as heroine through the same banner for ‘Seetaramaiahgari Manavaralu’. I feel that I am fortunate to do another role under the same banner now.’ Director Vijayabhaskar says, ‘Matrusri Vengamamba earned a good name as a writer and a devotee of Lord Venkateswara. Tasteful producer Doraswamy Raju is producing the film with her story.’ Producer says, ‘We are planning schedules in March, April and May and they would be taken up in Hyderabad, Tirupati and their surrounding areas. We are specially erecting the Tirumala temple set exclusively for the purpose.’ Bhumana Subrahmanya Reddy, KJ Krishnamurthy, Vedavyasa, Saratbabu, Sivaparvathi, Krishnaveni and others participated. Sneha Ullal to debut in Sandalwood

News is doing rounds that Aishwarya Rai’s look alike Sneha Ullal is all set to make her debut in Sandalwood in Upendra starrer London Gowda. The film has been penned down by Upendra himself and its said that he himself will direct the film also. But if you are expecting any kissing scene in the film then you would be disappointed as the actress prefers to dram a line as far as kissing is concerned. "Though I am now single and ready to mingle, I am not a prude but I am not game at all for kissing lip to lip in films, because I feel that you should save some thing for the bedroom. I am an animal lover and hence promote vegetarianism and hence want my man also to be a vegetarian. Aayirathil Oruvan to hit the theatres on 20th of February

After being into cold storage for eight long years, Kalabhavan Mani starrer Aavirathil Oruvan is finally about to hit the theatres. Directed by Sibi Malayil, the flick is said to be a family entertainer. In Aayirathil Oruvan, Kalabhavan Mani plays the role of a village ration shop owner, who is struggling to repay a loan borrowed for his sister’s marriage from a money lender, who charges usurious interest. Amazingly the film written by T. A. Razak may not have released but it has already been honoured by a Kerala State Award for Best Story in 2002. Sujatha is playing the female main lead. Aayirathil Oruvan also has Janardanan, Salim Kumar, K.P.A.C. Lalitha and Tamil comedian Senthil in the cast.   - SAMPURN

No politics for Vijay

At the occasional gathering of Vijay’s Welfare Association held in Mumbai Ray Road, Vijay’s father S.A. Chandrashekar donated 2 computers and 10 sewing machines to the underprivileged students. Vijay’s mother Shiba Chandrasekar was present too. The proud father expressed how after MGR, only Vijay’s fans are spread all throughout the nation. But his father’s one statement shocked everyone out there. He said that his son would never enter politics neither would support any political party.

Second schedule commences for Calender

Actor Mahesh’s directorial debut flick Calender has started its second schedule in the breathtaking locations of Peerumedu. Actress Zarina Wahab is making a comeback with this film. The actress was has acted in lot of Malayalam and Hindi films in the period of 80’s. Not only this, Zarina’s co-star Prathap Pothan is also making a comeback. The two also paired in 80’s super hit flick Chamaram. Navya Nair would be seen in an impotant role. Prithviraj, Mukesh, Jagathy, Mallika Sukumaran and Manian Pillai Raju are also in the star cast. Puneet Rajkumars Ram is Ready for Anything

Aditya Babu is now producing Kannada remake of the Telugu flick Ready. The film will have Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead and the title is Ram – Ready For Anything. Superstar Puneeth was recently presented with the state’s best actor award for his sensitive performance in Milana. Speaking to the media, Puneeth said that he immensely enjoyed Ready. He said that the team will try to decrease the length of the film when made in Kannada. Prabhu Deva choreographs for Bodyguard

Prabhu Deva has choreographed dance sequences at the location of Kottayam, Kerala for Malayalam film Bodyguard directed by Siddique. The film stars comedy-turned-actor Dileep and gorgeous Nayanthara. The film is been scripted by the director himself. The other cast includes Mithra, Undapakru, Janardhanan, Zeenat, Appahaja, Nandu, Seema G. Nair, Harisree Asokan, Anil Murali, Cochin Haneefa, Balachandran and Chullikad. The film has five songs composed by Ousepachan. Lyrics are ben jotted down by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, while Ananthakkuttan captures the flick in his camera.

Ram Gopal Varmas Phoonk to be dubbed in Tamil

Ram Gopal Varma’s Hindi horror flick Phoonk is now being dubbed in Tamil with the title Bhommaee. The film did reasonably well in Hindi and a special contest was held over there that whoever watches the film alone in the theatre will be awarded with a cash prize and guess what, no one was able to watch the full film seated alone in the theatre. The film stars Sudeep and Amritha. J P Kumar of Future Films is dubbing this film in Tamil and releasing it. The story deals with black magic and how due to business rivalry, black magic affects Sudeep and his family’s life. Amar Kohilee has composed the music while Savitha Singh has captured the flick in the camera. 

Nayakans crew in Malaysia

Action thriller flick, Nayakan’s crew is currently busy filming in Malaysia. Son of late Jose Pellissery, Lilo Jose Pellissery is making his directorial debut with this flick. Apart from Indrajith, the other star cast of Nayakan includes, Siddhique, Thilakan, Jagathy, Lalu Alex, Sreejith Ravi, Vijay Menon, Rekha Pillai and Sumi. In this film Indrajith would be seen playing the character of a Kathakali exponent who is forced to join the underworld to take revenge on the people who destroyed his family. With a talented star cast, there’s a lot of expectation from this film.

Ananda Thandavam to hit screen on April 10

Ananda Thandavam, directed by AR Gandhi Krishna and produced by Oscar Ravichandran with Tamanna and debutant hero Siddhartha in the lead is being released through SVR Media in the State. The producer is making efforts to release the film in Telugu and Tamil languages simultaneously. Speaking to the media Sobharani of SVR Media says, ‘We are making efforts to release the film on April 10. The post-production work is in final stages. Presently final mixing works are progressing.’ Rukmini is playing another heroine. Music is by GV Prakash Kumar, camera is by Jeeva Shankar, art is by Thota Tarani, dialogues are by Thota Tarani, editing is by VT Vijayan, while D Suresh is the co-producer. - SAMPURN

Kishore turns hero

After giving some amazing villainous performances in films like Jayam Kondaan and Polladhavan, Kishore is now all set to turn hero with his upcoming flick Porkkalam. The film will be directed by Pandi Sarojkumar who has studied filmmaking in Bangkok. The movie is said to be a complete action-packed flick which is also bringing Tinu Anand back in Tamil films after a long break. The other star cast includes Lal, Biju Menon, Sampath, Ponvannan, Santhanabharathy and Rajesh. The movie is being produced by Barani Minerals. Music is being composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and the flick would be shot in the locations of Tamil Nadu apart from a flashback portion which will be shot in Thailand.

Oka Ammayi Oka Abbayi audio launched

Directed by Ram Kumar of ‘Tinnama Padukunnama Tellarinda’-fame, and produced by Y Alex of ‘Khaki Chokka and Ashoka Chakram’-fame, ‘Oka Ammayi Oka Abbayi’ (Out of calling area) had Krishna in a key role. Viswas is making his debut as hero through this movie, while Rupa Kaur and Lahari are playing the heroines. Varikuppala Yadagiri scored tunes for the flick. The audio of the film was launched at an impressive function held at Prasad Labs. A Ranesh Prasad of Prasad Labs released the audiocassettes while YS Madanmohan Reddy, brother of Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, unveiled the audio CDs. Speaking on the occasion the producer says, ‘I have produced many action and mass films in my 15-year career. However, for the first time, I brought out a beautiful love story to attract class audiences.’ The director says, ‘It is a love story with suspense in its backdrop.’ Aditya Music is marketing the audio. - SAMPURN

Shooting started of Shivakashi

Shivakashi, featuring Ajith of Patre Loves Padma fame, Manasi of Moggina Manasu fame and Yogesh Veer in the lead roles hit the floors on 19th of January. Ananth Nag and Lakshmi would be sharing the screen space after a long time in this flick. Another interesting part is that comedy actor Sharan and his mother Radha would be seen in the roles of son and mother.

Currency to grace theatres on 14th of April

Debutant director Swathi Bhaskar’s flick Currency is all set to hit the theatres on 14th of April. The film is being produced under the banner of Indo-star Movie Magic and stars Jayasuriya and Meera Nandan in the main lead. Jayasuriya would be seen portraying the character of a tailor named Keshava Menon. Mukesh is also playing an important character named Danny D’Souza. The other star cast includes Kalabhavan Mani, Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Siddique and Mamookoya. 24 Hours in Melbourne to hit the floors soon

Produced by The Australian Kannada Sangha members, 24 Hours In Melbourne is going to be shot entirely in Melbourne, Australia. The shooting of the flick is scheduled to start on 10th of March and it is going to be shot in a stretch for 30 days. The story revolves round incidents that happen in Melbourne within a span of 24 hours. Caught in the middle of these incidents are five friends led by Girish and Hemanth. Tina Ponnapa, the Coorg girl who won the national award for her first film Meera (Tamil) is the heroine of 24 Hours in Melbourne. Director of films, Meghana, Sinchana, Nimma Shanker Nag and Aa Ondhu Kanasu, is going to direct the flick. Other cast members include Sharma, Chandrasekhar, Shashidhar and Reeta.   - SAMPURN

Bala to get wed with Amritha

Singing based reality show has helped actor Bala to find his life partner. Bala was judging a Star Singer show on a private channel and in the process fell for the contestant Amritha who has just appeared for her Plus 2 examinations. It is good to know that their love story didn’t had any villains and Bala and Amritha’s parents have mutually agreed for their marriage. The hit Tamil film ‘Subrahmanyapuram is now being dubbed into Telugu and it has been titled as ‘Ananthapuram 1980’. Theatre festival to be held in Thrissur

Noted Indian director Mysore Shrinivas Sathyu, popularly known as M.S. Sathyu, will inaugurate a theatre festival in Thrissur, organized by Nataka Souhridam from April 3 to April 5 as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations. The plays to be staged are Kurthippadam (Malayalam), Agni Mattu Male (Kannada) and Mahadevbhai (English). M.S. Sathyu, critic Sadanand Menon, dramatist G. Kumara Varma and academic M.V. Narayanan will take part in seminars to be held on April 4 and April 5. An exhibition of theatre-related photographs and posters, curated by Sadanand Menon, will also be held.   - SAMPURN

Shooting ends for Hindi Pokkiri

Producers seem to play safe and invest their money in the films which has already been liked by the audiences and this banking on remakes. Mahesh Babu starrer Pokkiri was appreciated highly and did a good business at the box office. Seeing its success, Prabhu Deva and Vijay instantly decided to cash on it and remade the Telugu version of the flick which was directed by Puri Jaganath. But this was not the end as Salman Khan and producer Boney Kapoor got highly impressed with the film and decided to remake it in Hindi. Ayesha Takia is the actress while Mahesh Manjrekar and Vinod Khanna would also be seen playing important. The shooting of the flick has gotten over and it would really be interesting to see whether the flick yet again proves to be lucky for the producer or not.   - SAMPURN

Prabhu, son of Sivaji Ganesan and noted Tamil actor is acting in his first Kannada film Boss which features challenging star Darshan and Navya Nair in the lead roles. The actor is currently busy shooting for the film in Mysore. Making his debut with 1982 released flick Sangili, Prabhu has come a long way. Amisha Patel to enter Sandalwood

Rumours are going around that Bollywood beauty Amisha Patel would be entering into the world of Sandalwood with the remake of Telugu hit flick Athanokkade. Debutant Naveen will direct the film and the hero will be a newcomer. The film will be launched on Ugadi day and shooting will begin in April. The hot babe has already worked in South Cinema. In Tamil she has acted in films like Enna Vilai Azhagae and Pudhiya Geethai while in Telugu Cinema she has done films like Badri, Naani and Narasimhudu. Starting her career with Super hit film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Amisha is at the moment not doing so well in Hindi Cinema.
 
We would have to wait and see whether the diva succeeds in making her name in Sandalwood.

Puneet Rajkumar starrer Raj’s music is doing wonders with nearly one lakh audio CDs been sold in just two days after its music was launched on Ugadi. Undoubtedly the producer of the flick is elated as he believes that this would make sure that even his film does wonders when it is been released. Personally Puneet’s favourite song from the film is Paru Paru…Two songs will be picturized a little latter as actress Nisha Kothari fractured her leg in an accident. We wish the pretty actress a speedy recovery and hope that her career atleast takes a boost in South as she failed to make it big in Bollywood. After ‘Eenadu’, another film is in the offing for Venkatesh under the direction of Sreenu Vaitla. Grand music launch planned for Kandasamy

Vikram starrer Kandasamy has sold its film’s release rights, satellite rights, audio rights for a record price and a grand release of its audio release is been planned by producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu. Abhirami Ramanathan, producer, theatre owner and distributor has bought the film’s city rights for Rs. 4Crores. The film has been shot at beautiful locations of Africa, Spain and Italy. Shriya Saran is playing the lead actress in the flick. Vikram plays a secret investigating officer with Special Branch, adept at uncovering the mysteries of life and death. He’s an unselfish and dedicated person who helps the downtrodden and fights against discrimination. Sporting an unusually boyish hair cut, Shriya is the love interest who can be both sweet and sour. Vikram repeatedly rebuffs her advances, but eventually she succeeds in making him fall in love with her. She fights along with him against inequality between the rich and poor.   - SAMPURN

Comedian Suraj turns hero

Many comedians have cashed in on their popularity and landed up doing lead roles in the films. But history suggests that these comedians never succeeded in the lead roles and in ended up no where. Looking at this history, it seems popular comedy star Suraj Venjaramoodu was also not signing in for lead roles being offered to him since a long time now. But now it looks like the actor has changed his mind as he has decided to work in the movie Duplicate to be directed by debutante Shibu Prabhakar. July release for Kamal Hassans Unnai Pol Oruvan

Shooting of Kamal Hassan starrer Unnai Pol Oruvan has started and the film is now expected to finish rolling and hit the theatres in July. The flick is being produced bilingually in Tamil and Telugu by the collaboration of UTV and Kamal Hassan. The superstar’s talented daughter Shruti Hassan scores background music for the movie. The flick is a remake of Bollywood blockbuster A Wednerday which also won the Stardust Award recently. In the Hindi version talented actors like Naseerudin Shah and Anupam Kher were involved in the project whereas down South, brilliant actors like Kamal Hassan and Ventakesh are involved.

Police Quarters hits the floor

After earning a lot of appreciation from both masses as well as critics for his daring film Cyanide, based of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, A.M.R. Ramesh is now making yet another hard hitting flick titled Police Quarters which is inspired by a true incident which took place in 1982. The film has commenced its shooting on Ugadi, 27th of March. The film is being made simultaneously in Tamil as Kaavalar Kudi. The story is set on the backdrop of the demolition of the Babri Masjid and the events that followed. The film will introduce new faces Anees Tejeswar and Sonu. It is been produced by Anitha and Indumathi under the banner of Vasishta films. It is not just the money, but the family and human relations are important is the message we are going to give through this movie. Maharaja moving smoothly

The shooting of Maharaja is moving smoothly.  Recently a sequence of Nasser’s kidnap was shot in Bharathidasan Nagar in KKR Nagar in Chennai. The shooting of the film took place in Chennai and is being continued in Hyderabad. The songs will be shot in Malaysia. The film is being produced by J Ravi under the banner of Jayaram Creations. T Manoharan has penned down the story, screenplay and dialogues and is also taking care of the direction of the flick. T Iman has composed the music for the lyrics jotted down by Na Muthukumar, Pa Vijay, Snegan and Yuga Bharathi. Making his debut with Valluvan Vasuki, Sathya would be seen in the lead role. Kattradhu Tamil Anjali and Samurai Anitha are the two heroines of this film. The other cast includes Nasar, Saranya, Karunas, Kovai Sarala and Venir Adai Murthy.   - SAMPURN

B. Saroja Devi honoured at BIFFES

Veteran actor B. Saroja Devi was honoured by Mrs. Parvathamma Rajkumar on the third day of Bengalooru International Film Festival. Expressing her happiness, Saroja Devi said, "It was indeed a pleasure to remember the old memories while seeing the photo exhibition of 75 years of Kannada Cinema. I was greatly pleased to be honoured by Mrs. Parvathamma Rajkumar and don’t feel any difference if honoured either by Rajkumar or by Parvathamma. It will be a great pleasure to share the stage with Mr. B.S. Ranga on some other occasion as he is not present here today." She remembered how B. S. Ranga helped her finish the shoot of a film in half a day so that she could go for the next schedule. The event also witnessed the release of the book and souvenir on N.
