Chiranjeevi led Praja Rajyam’s women’s wing Mahila Rajyam chief, Shobha Rani has hotly denied reports that she married actor Prakashraj in Chennai recently, with some PRP leaders present. She claims that the story is false and created by the media and that the pictures on the internet are also phony. Prakashraj, whose divorce petition is still pending in court, has also denied marrying Shobha Rani.

Thambivudayaan banned by Censor Board

The Censor Board has banned director Raja Mahesh’s new Tamil film, Thambivudayaan (also spelt Thambivudaiyan), which is based on the Kaveri river water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This happened after the director refused to cut some scenes saying they were important for the movie.

Music Launch of Abhay

The music of director Mahesh Babu’s Abhay was released in Bangalore. The film which is produced by Babu Reddy has Darshan and Aarti Thakur playing the lead roles. The music director of the film Harikrishna said the audio rights have been bought by Anand Audios. The grandchildren of producer Babu Reddy released the music album of the highly anticipated film, which will grace theatres in September. During the music launch, music director Harikrishna, cinematographer Ramesh Babu and actors Darshan and Om Prakash Rao were present along with the producer and director of the film.

Premism Shoots in Chhattisgarh

‘Premism’ becomes the first Indian regional language film to shoot in Chhattisgarh. Produced by Ajay Gowda, a sequence of the film was shot at the Chitrakoota falls and Thirathghat falls near Jagadalpur. The falls bear a striking resemblance to America’s Niagara Falls.

Kanteerava Studios ventures into infrastructure development

The state-run Sri Kanteerava Studios in Bangalore has planned to come up with 150 theatres in ‘B’ and ‘C’ centers of Karnataka with a view to encourage Kannada cinema. The project is with private sector and industry participation and is estimated at around Rs.200 crores.

The remaking of Mappillai

In the spell of remakes, another one to join the bandwagon of classic hits getting a makeover is Mappillai. Superstar Rajinikanth and Amala played the protagonists with the late actress Srividhya in the negative role. Srividhya played the loaded and haughty mother-in-law who wanted nothing more than to get rid of her son-in-law Rajinikanth, a smart working class guy. One of Rajinikanth’s most popular comedies, Mappillai is now set to return to the theatres. The Kannada film board is now open to non Kannada words to be registered and certified as the title of their films. Film director Prashanth, maker of Love Guru remembers the time when he had to convince the board as to why was he naming the film Love Guru. He said that the entire matter was discussed repeatedly for almost a month and then they were finally called for a screening of the film, where they had to justify the use of the title. Prashanth still strongly feels that the film wouldn’t have sounded good with a Kannada title.

A.R.Rehana sister of A. R. Rahman will be singing for a Kannad film Yogi. The music of the film is said to be given by Emil and lyrics by Umesh Kottur. Yogish who is said to be in the lead role will also be singing with Rehana in a film directed by Udayaprakash.
