NEW DELHI - The dialogues and heartwarming songs of legendary actor-director Guru Dutt’s 1957 cinematic masterpiece “Pyaasa” have been immortalised into a book by author Nasreen Munni Kabir.

Titled “The Dialogue of Pyaasa”, it also includes extensive commentary by Kabir and is is available in Hindi, Urdu and English. It will be launched Wednesday.

The film was a masterpiece thanks to Abrar Alvi’s flawless script and Guru Dutt’s deft direction and impeccable performance. He was amply supported by Waheeda Rahman as Gulabo and Johnny Walker as Abdul Sattar in the black and white saga about a poet’s thirst for love, recognition and fulfilment.

The songs are said to be soul of Guru Dutt’s immortal classic.

Sahir Ludhianvis lyrics captured every emotion in songs like “Jaane kya tune kahi”, Hum “Aap ki ankhon mein”, “Jaane woh kaise log the jinke”, “Jinhe naaz hai Hind” and “Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye”, which were beautifully composed by S.D. Burman.
