MELBOURNE - Britney Spears has jumped to the top of iTunes singles charts in the US and Australia with her latest single, ‘Hold It Against Me’.

The heavily-auto tuned dance number vaulted past Bruno Mars’ Grenade in the US and Dirty Talk by Wynter Gordon Down Under, reports News.com.au.

“Seriously, I have the best fans ever,” Spears tweeted after the single leaked.

“I love you all so much!! Everything I do is for you! xoxo Brit,” she added.

The erratic pop music star single success came despite accusations from 1970’s country music duo The Bellamy Brothers that the song steals their lyrics.

The Bellamy Brothers had a No. 1 hit in 1979 with If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body, Would You Hold it Against Me? Spears’ new song includes the refrain “So if I said I want your body now, would you hold it against me?”

David Bellamy, half of the duo, told TMZ: “Howard [Bellamy] and I have no personal beef with Britney. She’s a talented gal. But professionally, well, in all honesty, we feel completely ripped off. Where’s the originality?” (ANI)
