Carrie Fisher opens up about her shock treatment

NEW YORK - ‘Star Wars’ star Carrie Fisher has revealed about the time she had to undergo electroconvulsive therapy.

Fisher, 54, who has battled addiction, her brief marriage to musician Paul Simon, her love affair with a closeted homosexual, and her waxing and waning bipolar disorder, spoke about the ups and downs of the treatment.

“Well, it’s the ups and downs that send you to ECT. But it’s like, if there’s anything in you that gets stuck or if there’s a concrete wall, it blows that apart,” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying.

“It’s like being hit with happy lightning. But the initial time you do it, you lose the month around then,” she said.

The actress, who features in ‘Wishful Drinking’, an autobiographical comedic one-woman show, was asked if she was upset with the therapy.

“Well, what the f- matters at that point? If you’re so depressed that you’ve gone to have ECT, do you really want to remember it?” she revealed.

“I was not this person now that kind of has it together. Actually, I still don’t have it together. I have it newly assembled from old parts,” she added. (ANI)
