LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- The reviews of ‘Black Swan‘ are out and calling it a ‘mixed’ reception would be too simple a term. While some critics went on to call it a masterpiece from Darren Aronofsky, some found it disturbing and vague. The film received a huge amount of hype as insiders said that it was a performance of a lifetime by Natalie Portman. Another reason why the film was highly anticipated was because of the intense lesbian sex scenes between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis.

While some of the critics were harsh in their reviews of ‘Black Swan’ some were quite taken aback by the intensity. While many have found similarities to the 1948 classic ‘The Red Shoes’, many have also found similarities to Roman Polanski’s style of direction. The story of the film has failed to impress most of the critics whereas the performance by Natalie Portman has literally taken them by storm. One critic has called it ‘beautifully crazy’ and the artistic cinematography of Darren Aronofsky is one of the points were the critics have been unanimously bedazzled.

Renowned critic Wesley Morris found the relationship between Natalie Portman’s character and her mother’s to be one of the most important aspects of ‘Black Swan’ and said that he did not find the rest of the movie too deep. He felt that the thrill of the movie was gone after the second viewing. Manohla Dargis said in her review that she was somehow not too convinced with the sex scenes between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and said that it could have been a result of Darren Aronofsky’s viewing of the erotic series, ‘Red Shoe Diaries’.
