NEW YORK - Johny Depp apparently wants Brad Pitt for the lead role in ‘The Lone Ranger’ remake.

Depp picked Pitt’s name in the mix to play the lead role in the movie’s remake, in which Depp will play the role of Tonto.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ director Gore Verbinski signed on as the director for the Disney project set for release in 2012.

“There are so many interesting possibilities out there. Brad [Pitt] would be great. [George] Clooney would be great. Don’t know who it’s going to be just yet,” the New York Post quoted the 44-year-old star as telling Entertainment Tonight.

Depp, whose grandfather is Cherokee, is deeply committed to the project and particularly to the way Native Americans are portrayed.

“Native Americans in cinema, over the past however many decades, have been treated somewhat shabbily,” he said.

“This one has plans to rectify that,” Depp added about the new version of the classic Western film and TV show. (ANI)
