PUNE - Even though fashion and Bollywood go hand-in-hand in India, the first day of the Pune fashion Week (PFW) Thursday was packed with the display of designers’ collections but had no signs of Bollywood glamour.

The day witnessed four shows by designers Raakesh Agarvwal, Surily Goel, Mandira Wirk and Puneet Nanda of Satya Paul.

All the designers showcased outstanding collections inspired by varied elements but without any celebrity from Hindi filmdom, who usually make a beeline for fashion weeks.

Although other designers maintained that they purposely didn’t rope in a Bollywood celebrity as a showstopper , Mandira revealed that her plan changed in the last moment.

“I had a big surprise planned for Pune, but things got cancelled at the last moment. I style many Bollywood celebrities and I had spoken to couple of them to become the showstopper for the show in PFW but everyone was very busy and because of the festivities things didnt work out,” Mandira told IANS.

The other showstopper, apart from other models walking the ramp was Amruta Patki, Miss India Earth, 2006, who sashayed down the ramp for Nanda.

Even though the opening was low on the Bollywood quotient, the audience are expecting for greener pastures in the coming two days.
