Gene Shalit Retires From “The Today Show”

LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- The film and book critic Gene Shalit is all set to bid adieu to “The Today Show” after serving the morning and talk show for more than 40 years. The representative of the film critic said that Gene Shalit is pursuing some other activities and looking forward to do some new projects in his career. When asked the veteran critic said that he already had enough of “The Today Show” and now he wants to take a break from it and want to concentrate on publishing, radio and other commercials.

Gene Shalit joined “The Today Show” in 1973 and has been an integral part of the show for more than four decades. The veteran film critic will leave the NBC program on November 11. The NBC officials have reported that they plan to pay a tribute to Gene Shalit on the final day of his “The Today Show” in an extremely emotional video where there will be excerpts from his career and bits and pieces of his best shows. The retrospective salute will also include his works over the decade which would include his film reviews and his famous celebrity interviews.

A reputed media source reported that Gene Shalit has been reviewing “motion pictures”, books and plays on television, major magazines and also radio for more than four decades. According to media outlets Gene Shalit is one of the most influential film critics. Jim Bell, executive producer of “The Today Show” said that Gene Shalit was not only treasure of “The Today Show” but also he can be called as “American Idol” and “television legend”. He said that the whole cast and crew of NBC and “The Today Show” salute him for his contribution in the show.
