Nobel lit prize winner to be announced Oct. 7

STOCKHOLM — The Swedish Academy says it will announce the winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in literature next Thursday, on Oct. 7.

Friday’s statement completes the schedule for this year’s Nobel awards, which starts with the medicine prize on Monday.

The physics award will be announced Tuesday, followed by chemistry on Wednesday and the Nobel Peace Prize two days later. The winners of the economics award will be revealed the following Monday, Oct. 11.

Last year’s literature prize went to Romanian-born writer Herta Mueller.

The academy’s Permanent Secretary Peter Englund told The Associated Press that this year’s winner has already been selected but that it has to be confirmed through a formal vote on Thursday.

The Nobel awards are handed out on Dec. 10.
