LOS ANGELES - Rap pioneers The Beastie Boys, along with more traditional rock luminaries like Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper and Tom Waits, were among the 15 nominees announced Tuesday for the 2011 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Also making the list were crooner Neil Diamond, folk singers Donovan and Laura Nyro, New Orleans blues legend Dr. John, the J. Geils Band, disco queen Donna Summer, funk act Chic, soul singers Darlene Love and Joe Tex and R&B singer Chuck Willis.

Five of the group will be inducted into the pantheon of rock greats in March following votes by 500 industry professionals. Artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first album or single.

Last year the Hall of Fame inductees were Iggy and the Stooges, ABBA, Genesis, The Hollies and Jimmy Cliff.
