ISLAMABAD - Angelina Jolie, the UNHCR Ambassador, has released a video appealing for greater support for Pakistan flood victims.

The actress has already donated 100,000 dollars for the relief of flood victims.

“These are not just humanitarian crises. This is an economic and a social catastrophe,” the Daily Times quoted her as saying.

The floods have left one-fifth of Pakistan under water and have affected an estimated 17 million people.

UNHCR is one of the numerous UN agencies that are on grounds with Pakistan in trying to provide relief to the flood victims, many of whom face a long wait before they can return to their homes and livelihoods.

“The more support we can give, the greater number of tents, food, clean water and medication will get to the people in need,” she added.

UNHCR has revised its section of wider appeal from 41 million dollars to 120 million dollars, as the needs of the flood victims continue to outpace the ability of aid groups to respond. (ANI)
