Michael Douglas Has Throat Tumor

Los Angeles (GaeaTimes.com) Sixty Five year old veteran actor Michael Douglas has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his throat. It has not yet been specified whether the tumor is malignant or benign.

The lump in throat may be due to smoking in his early life. The actor had a long career in Hollywood spanning almost 5 decades. He is the son of Film Legend Kirk Douglas. The actor is married to Welsh actress Catherine Zeta Jones. The couple has 2 kids Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta.

He will undergo eight weeks of Radiation and Chemotherapy to treat the cancerous tumor. Doctors have suggested that only Radiation therapy will work if the tumor is in initial stages. The tumor in stages III and IV need Chemotherapy as well.

The actor is very optimistic about the entire situation, according to his spokesman. Doctors are convinced about his complete recovery. He has to make some adjustments in his lifestyle. During the treatment, he has to intake food via tube as swallowing may not be allowed. Many patients develop painful sores in mouth due to the Chemotherapy. Some even need antibiotics and narcotics for pain.

To prevent a second recurrence of the cancer he must stay away from second hand smoking and alcohol too. The repetition of the cancer may prove fatal and even hard to diagnose.

The winner of 3 Golden globes and 2 Academy awards was born on September 25, 1944 in America. He worked as a TV and films actor. He switched to production afterwards in his life. He received the Academy Awards for Best Actor in 1987 for his role in Wall Street. The award for 1975’s Best Picture was received by him as a producer of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Douglas received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2009.
