Moment of silence for Steinbrenner at All-Stars

ANAHEIM, Calif. — A moment of silence has been held for George Steinbrenner at the All-Star game.

A tribute to the New York Yankees owner was shown on the video board at Angel Stadium before Tuesday night’s game. Fans and players then honored Steinbrenner with a brief silence.

Steinbrenner died earlier in the day.

Shortstop Derek Jeter and other members of the Yankees wore black armbands. The U.S., Canadian and state of California flags were lowered to half-staff.

The Yankees will wear uniform patches for the rest of the season to remember Steinbrenner and longtime public address announcer Bob Sheppard. The patch for Steinbrenner will have his initials and include “The Boss.” The patch for Sheppard features a microphone.
