AMRITSAR - Film Director Navaniat Singh along with his star cast, Jimmy Shergill, Neeru Bajwa and singer Gippy Grewal were in Amritsar this weekend for promotion of his upcoming film ‘Mel Kara De Rabba’.

This is Navaniat Singh’s second film after ‘Tera Mera ki Rishta’.

Speaking about his film here on Saturday, Navaniat Singh said: “I want to connect with the youth of Punjab through this film. Jimmy Shergill plays a boy who can be seen in any university or college of Punjab. He is a kind of a boy with whom no girl wants to have any kind of association. But the situation makes him closer to Neeru, who is an ambitious girl. This is the story of how romance and love changes everything,” says Singh.

“Having acted in about five Punjabi films, I have realised that Punjabi films are a big hit in the diaspora probably because they reconnect the NRIs to their roots. But then a lot needs to be done. We need to make good films with social messages so that Punjabi films can play a bigger role than they are doing now. More and more filmmakers need to come forward and invest in Punjabi films. This would help more subjects, more actors and better films for our audience,” said Neeru Bajwa.

Former State Minister and MLA Bikram Singh Majithia, who was present on the occasion said that directions have been issued to pass legislation to end piracy that is hitting the Punjabi music and film industry hard and district police heads had been issued directions to act against the defaulters.

He said Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal had been pushing the legislation following request from artists from the state.

Shergil who is cousin of Majithia demanded that the state government must act against pirates to save the film and music industry. By Sawinder Singh (ANI)
