Will Daniel Craig Play The Lead In The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo?

June 4, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): British actor, Daniel Craig is busy talking to Sony about starring in the Hollywood adaptation of Swedish film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. As of now nothing has been confirmed but there have been reports that Craig is about to sign the deal for essaying the role of Mikael Blomkvist in the film. Craig, who is the sixth actor to portray secret agent James Bond, is about to start shooting for the Dreamworks’ sci-fi western Cowboys and Aliens.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a crime thriller and it is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson. It is also a part of his ‘Millennium Trilogy which also include, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets

The Hollywood version of the film will be directed by David Fincher, who was nominated for an Academy Award in 2008 for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. There were earlier reports of Brad Pitt, who has worked with Fincher in three films, being considered for the lead.

Many actresses have expressed an interest for playing the female lead including Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman and Carey Mulligan.

The film is slated for a December 2011 release and the shoot is expected to start sometime in October this year.
