GARY COLEMAN’s DIFF’RENT STROKES co-star CHARLOTTE RAE is leading the tributes to the former child star, who died on Friday (28May10) at the age of 42.

The actor was admitted to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center on Wednesday (26May10) after suffering a brain haemorrhage following a fall at his home earlier this week (begs24May10).

He lost consciousness on Thursday (27May10) and was placed on life support but his wife, Shannon Price, decided to pull the plug on Friday morning. He died hours later at 12.05pm (local time).

Rae is one of the first of Coleman’s former colleagues to express her sorrow at his tragic passing, remembering the diminutive star as a “charming” man.

She tells TMZ.com, “I said a prayer for him this morning after hearing about his condition. Gary was so loving, so charming. He was the big star of the show… He was the reason the show was a hit.”

Actor Ricky Shroeder, who found fame as a child on his own 1980s sitcom Silver Spoons, has also paid tribute to Coleman, whose career was blighted by health, money and personal troubles.

In a statement to UsMagazine.com, he says, “Gary can now have the peace he found so little of in life.”

Singers Paula Abdul and Katy Perry and actresses Alyssa Milano and Melissa Joan Hart took to Twitter.com to pay their respects, while former ER star John Stamos issued a warning to parents looking to push their children into showbusiness.

Stamos tweeted, “Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be actors. r.i.p. gary.”
