FARRAH FAWCETT’s son REDMOND O’NEAL has been granted permission to leave his drug rehab facility after a Los Angeles judge praised his “excellent progress”.

The troubled 25 year old has been in and out of rehabilitation programs for the past year, trying to tackle his substance abuse problems.

He was arrested in December (09), while on release from a California rehab facility, and tested positive for illegal substances. He was subsequently ordered to spend time behind bars at the Wayside Detention Center.

O’Neal vowed to kick his addictions once and for all in honour of his mother, who lost her battle with cancer last June (09), and it appears he has kept his promise - Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan commended his efforts in a progress hearing on Wednesday (12May10).

He also granted him permission to be moved to a sober-living facility, according to People.com.

O’Neal’s lawyer Richard Pintal tells the website, “It’s a big, big day for Redmond. Redmond has come so far. He’s really feeling great.”

Redmond was moved to rehab last year (09) to continue his fight against substance abuse after serving time behind bars in connection to a January 2008 drug arrest and a probation violation.

He will return to court in June (10) for another progress hearing.
