BRET MICHAELS’ bandmate PETE EVICK has credited the singer’s girlfriend for helping to save the rocker’s life - by remaining positive throughout his near-fatal brain haemorrhage ordeal.

The Poison frontman, 47, spent days in an intensive care unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona after suffering bleeding on the brain following complications following an appendectomy last month (Apr10).

He was diagnosed with the life-threatening side-effect of a condition called hyponatremia - a lack of sodium in the body that can lead to seizures.

Michaels is now making a recovery and wants to marry longterm partner Kristi Gibson, with whom he has two daughters, Raine, nine, and Jorja, five.

Now Evick, lead guitarist of The Bret Michaels Band and a close pal of the rocker, has applauded Gibson for keeping Michaels calm throughout the health scare and convincing him to go to hospital.

He tells U.S. chat show host Larry King, “You know, she’s shown an incredible amount of strength through all of this. You’ve got to attribute her to saving his life because her calmness during the event probably kept him calm.

“She was the one that said let’s not panic and let’s get you to the hospital right away. And even at the hospital - once they were at the hospital, he still didn’t want to get out of the car, and he was like maybe this will just go away.

“And it was Kristi that was able to tell him that you’ve got to go to the hospital and do this and so she stayed strong and had to take care of the children through this and there was a lot of… I would imagine there was a lot of turmoil in her head… So she did a wonderful, wonderful job in all of this.”
