TOM CRUISE has confirmed THE INCREDIBLES’ director BRAD BIRD as the man who will helm MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 4 - and he’s having “a blast” working with the filmmaker.

J.J. Abrams signed up to work with Cruise for the fourth installment in the franchise earlier this year (10), but it was unclear who would be taking on the directing role.

The Top Gun actor has now revealed Bird has signed up to the project - and he’s ecstatic at the choice, because he’s having such a good time on set.

Cruise tells Empire Online, “We’re working with Brad right now. I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but everything’s signed… Brad is doing it… The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille - Brad is enormously talented and J.J. and I are having a blast, cranking away. We’re having a lot of fun. I like working with people I just love hanging out with. You get to hang out and laugh and talk stories and movies and technology: what are we going to do?”

Mission: Impossible 4 is scheduled for release on 16 December 2011.
